What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Associate I, DiCarlo Lab position at MIT?

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, McGovern Institute for Brain Research-DiCarlo Lab, to contribute to multidisciplinary research focused on understanding the neuronal algorithms and circuits that underlie visual object recognition. Will support the day-to-day activities of a team of technician(s), graduate students, and postdocs who will expand and scale the throughput of neural and behavioral data collection. Responsibilities include assisting with oversight of a state-of-the-art laboratory and animal colony by providing research and animal care support; serving alongside other technician(s) as liaison between the lab and the Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) to clearly communicate needs regarding animal care, health, scheduling, etc.; serving as a point-person for animal training and handling; working closely with DCM to develop and execute new protocols; ensuring proper training of lab members; acting as the point-person for in-cage animal behavior; assisting with writing, maintaining, and amending laboratory safety protocols and SOPs; assisting with planning and preparing for surgical procedures; assisting with surgical and MRI procedures; and assisting with data processing and storing collected data in standardized data structures on lab-wide databases and with reviewing the quality of collected data.

The position offers opportunities for direct participation in research projects, contributing to data analysis, and the co-authoring of publications where appropriate.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or a related field; two years’ experience working in a research laboratory; and basic computer skills. Seek a proactive, self-motivated individual with strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills who can work both independently and collaboratively with other lab members. PREFERRED: experience with animal research and comfort working with laboratory animals; a background in engineering and or experience with computer science/coding Job #23530
