I. Job Responsibilities
The Dental Assistant is responsible for the performance and oversight of the following activities:

Experience
0 - 5 years of experience in providing dental assisting services in a general dentistry practice
Physical Abilities
Able to perform all duties with reasonable accommodation. Excellent eyesight.
Iii. Working Conditions
The Dental Assistant is responsible for the performance and oversight of the following activities:
- Educating patients on oral health
- Chair-side Assisting to the Dentist
- Preparing and maintaining dental instruments, supplies and equipment
- Collecting and recording patient health histories
- Patient management during dental procedures
- Instrument transfer
- Dental procedure isolation techniques
- Preparation of dental materials, cements, amalgam, composite, impression materials, etc.
- Dental charting
- Prevention and Management of dental medical emergencies
- Inventory control and management
- Managing Dental Infection
- Managing dental office infection control plan to meet OSHA, CDC and ADA standards
- Instrument cleaning, sterilization/disinfection and re-circulation
- Dental treatment room disinfections
- Patient and Community Education
- Delivering patient personal oral care instructions
- Delivering community dental health presentations
- Planning, setting-up and manning health fair booths.
- Participate in planning and in the efficient, effective management of resources.
- Support Performance Improvement activities.
- Must have a philosophy of work that is compatible with that of the mission of the Neighborhood Improvement Project, Inc.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of dental field and requirements and limitations of dental assistanting
- Competence with electronic data and word processing
- Ability to successfully interact with a diverse population.
Experience
0 - 5 years of experience in providing dental assisting services in a general dentistry practice

Iii. Working Conditions
- The Dentist Assistant position requires interaction with diverse groups, thus working conditions require significant tact and judgment daily. Nearly all work will be in the dental office environment.
- High stress may be experienced when handling patients’ pain and anxiety and working within strict time schedules.
- Works in an outpatient primary health care setting with adequate lighting and climate control. Frequently exposed to communicable and infectious diseases. Occasional lifting of heavy objects required. Exposure (100%) to biological, chemical hazards and low-level radiation as well as “sharps” products. Requires moderate physical exertion. Requires substantial periods of standing and sitting. May work in a windowless environment. Frequently exposed to unpleasant odors from specimens. Very frequently exposed to moderate level of noise from phones, machinery, patients, visitors, and other personnel. Possibly is exposed to patients, visitors, and family members who are violent/out of control.
