What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physical Education Teacher position at Melmark?
General Responsibilities
The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for providing group instruction to all students in a structured gymnasium environment designed to promote physical, emotional and social growth. They will develop Physical Education lessons that are appropriate to the ages and populations served, specifically children and adolescents (ages 5-21 years) with autism, intellectual/developmental disorders and/or acquired brain injury.
Basic Qualifications
Education/Training: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Physical Education Field.
Certifications/Licensure: A Pennsylvania teaching certificate in Physical Education or Special Education is required. A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid and Crisis Intervention.
Skill(s): Strong teaching skills with emphasis on students who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Experience or interest in principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis. Physical Education preferred. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Ability to train and oversee peers, Classroom Teachers and ABA Counselors while working within the gym setting.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year experience with specialized populations and experience with special education curriculums.
