Overview Payroll Technician
Meritus Solutions Group (Meritus) is a SBA certified Department of Veteran Affairs Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business. Meritus provides critical infrastructure services, specifically Armed Guard Services, to Federal agencies throughout the United States.
Synopsis
The Payroll Technician performs a variety of technical payroll accounting duties to ensure employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner; prepare and maintain a variety of automated and manual records and reports related to the payroll function. Position will report to the Vice President of Business Solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities of Payroll Technician include but not limited to the following:
- Run bi-weekly payroll utilizing ADP time and labor management system:
- Review schedules for proper entry of employee’s time, compare time against government sign-in sheets, and contract time requirements.
- Work with site managers and supervisors to correct any issues with schedules.
- Apply appropriate breaks where needed to employee’s schedule.
- Apply worked time from the schedules to employee’s timesheet and ensure proper calculations are happening in the system for overtime.
- Code benefit time appropriately: sick, vacation, jury duty, bereavement, etc.
- Ensure accuracy of input and output data; audit final timesheet against payroll register.
- Serve as technical resource to personnel regarding payroll processes, policies and procedures; respond to inquiries and provide information concerning calculations, pay rates, benefits, taxes and leave; investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Assist employees with a variety of deductions; direct employee to appropriate system location to conduct transaction, setup deduction, or provide employee with appropriate paperwork.
- Process new hire setup and terminations as appropriate; verify proper codes, pay rates and related payroll data is setup correctly.
- Complete after payroll activities to include preparation of ADP export file to Cost Point, reviewing and adjusting leave balances.
- Proficient in Service Contract Act required benefits and pay; familiar with wage determinations and collective bargaining agreements.

Other
- Assist in the preparation and oversee daily, weekly and monthly reporting.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
- Any combination equivalent to: Associates Degree in accounting or payroll; or graduation from high school and two years clerical accounting experience including payroll processing functions.
- Experience in Government Contracting with Service Contract Act contracts
- ADP Experience (REQUIRED)
Hours per week:
- 20-40 (PT or FT available)
