Job Summary
This position involves the provision of intermediate to advanced academic/instructional support to students (one-on-one and small groups up to five people) in one or more content areas within the Computer Information Systems (CIS) field (including, but not limited to programming, database administration, networking and web development). This position will take place at the Mesa Community College (MCC) Southern and Dobson campus. Other positional duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Provides intermediate to advanced one-on-one and small group academic services, online and/or in-person for the CIS department
- Provides assistance to other lab assistants as needed
- Provides courteous customer service in person and online
- Maintains professionalism including punctuality and effective communication
- Access to the following academic platform: Cranium Cafe
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum five years work experience, or Associate Degree in Computer Science/CISand minimum of three years work experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/CIS
- Relevant work experience in one or more of the following fields: Computer Programming, Computer Systems Analytics, Data Science, or Software Development
- Experience with Programming / Data Analytics
- Successful completion (B letter grade or higher) of CIS /Information Technology courses such as CIS105: Survey of Computer Information Systems or BPC110: Computer Usage and Applications
- Experience establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
- Willing to work morning, afternoon and/or evening hours
- Able to work in person
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science/CIS, or 10 years current experiencein Programming and Data Analytics
- Experience assisting students with Computer Science and/or CIS course work/assignments
- Understanding of MacOS / Linux / Windows / AWS Cloud
- Competency in some or of all of the following areas:
- Programming (Java,Python,C#,R)
- Databases (SQL, MySQL,MongoDB)
- Visualizations (Tableau, Power BI)
- Successful completion of following courses or demonstrated equivalent knowledgeof course content:
