- High school diploma or equivalent required (Acceptable equivalent will be at the sole discretion of the District)
- Minimum two years prior food service experience; preference given for prior culinary supervisory experience and/or school nutrition services experience
- Mesa County Food Handlers Card required within 60 days of hire
- Serve Safe Certifications are required within one year of hire
- Operating knowledge of point-of-sale software and kitchen database management software within 60 days of hire.
- Criminal background check required for hire
- A variety of lift tests, including carrying liquids, of up to 50# is required at time of hire with recertification every three years;
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License required

NUTRITION SERVICES MISSION: We fuel successful learning!
SUMMARY: Operating under the general supervision of their assigned Nutrition Services District Manager, this position supports the Nutrition Services (NS) Department/Director by leading the school’s culinary team in the production and service of scratch produced meals for students. Position ensures compliance with all components of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act, Mesa County Health department guidelines, the Live Well School Meal Initiative and District nutrition policies, procedures, and standards. Position acts as the school’s point of contact for nutrition related topics and as such must promote a positive attitude, teamwork, and the District‘s mission working cooperatively with school administrators to fuel successful learning by creating an inter-dependent friendly & professional work atmosphere.
JOB FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Job Task Descriptions
1. Implements & supervises the daily kitchen operations at assigned school. Duties include but are not limited to the production and serving of meals, complying with correct portion sizes, required items and quantity per United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Offer versus Serve standards, Counting and Claiming procedures, and District policies. This position requires highly skilled culinary abilities, cooking daily from scratch to provide well-balanced, nutritious, and tasteful meals to students.
2. Participates in and oversees the scratch meal production process ensuring accurate use of the District’s official recipe & production records daily updates for their school. Employee must maintain organized records, monitor nutrition services operating changes, and be knowledgeable of and apply Live Wellproduction guidelines.
3. Performs and supervises all daily cleaning tasks including, but not limited to; dishwashing, sanitizing all food contact surfaces used for preparation, cleaning all non-food contact surfaces such as floors, shelving, walls, windows, kitchen restroom facilities, laundering of linens, towels etc. This person ensures the health and safety of everyone they serve through compliance with all District, City of Grand Junction, Mesa County, state and federal laws, statutes and guidelines.
4. Prepares weekly food orders while ensuring First-In, First-Out (FIFO) and inventory turnover standards are met. Employee is responsible for maintaining food costs within budgeted parameters including all aspects of the production record process and timecard reviews. Results and cost fluctuations beyond acceptable levels are investigated for resolution.
5. Conducts daily staff meetings to briefly review work assignments per the Live Well weekly planning sheet. This position provides support to Kitchen Associates to accomplish assignments and as needed employee is expected to adjust and change assigned work duties to ensure food quality and customer service standards are maintained.
6. Utilizes and supervises Kitchen Associates on proper use of point-of-sale software programs, employee timekeeping software, and other nutrition services information management systems. This employee is responsible for compiling and verifying daily bank deposits accuracy and must report any discrepancies according to department protocols.
7. Orients & trains new staff members in accordance with District policies and procedures. This position is expected to promote a culture of continual learning and professional development with existing kitchen staff utilizing the Situational Leadership Principles and Comprehensive Staff Development Checklist on a daily basis and as needed.
