What are the responsibilities and job description for the Referral Coordinator position at Midland Medical Broward?
Statement of Purpose: The Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating referrals while acting as a bridge between providers, patients, and insurance companies to ensure seamless and timely referrals for the patient population here at Midland. This position plays a vital role in verifying insurance coverage, communicating with specialists or service providers, scheduling appointments, and following up to track the progress of referrals. The Referral Coordinator works under the direction of the Prior Authorizations Manager. Midland focuses on excellence in healthcare to enable our patients to live a rewarding and fulfilling life. Essential Functions:
1. Promotes and practices MidlandCAN, LLC’s mission and values and follows its policies and procedures.
2. Ensures confidentiality is maintained by entire team regarding patient/client information in accordance with HIPAA, professional and departmental standards.
3. Verify patient insurance coverage to ensure the referral services are covered and obtain any necessary authorizations from insurance.
4. Coordinate communication between primary care physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers to facilitate the referral process.
5. Schedule appointments for patients with specialists or service providers, taking into account patient preferences and availability.
6. Complete follow-up calls to ensure patients attend their appointments and receive necessary services. Track the progress of referrals and update patient records accordingly.
7. Maintaining a consistently positive attitude and patient-first approach to deliver stellar service to all patients.
8. Address and resolve any issues or barriers that might arise during the referral process, advocating for patients when necessary.
9. Gain a comprehensive understanding of various platforms (e.g., CureMD, Availity, etc)
10. Reviews details and expectations about the referral with both ordering providers and patients. Requests new referrals to be ordered when applicable.
11. Review details and expectations about the referral with patients.
12. Maintain patient confidentiality under the HIPAA guidelines.
13. Cross trained in other positions.
14. Perform all other assigned tasks.
Education/Professional:
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Highschool diploma or equivalent (GED)
2. 1-2 years' experience of medical receptionist or medical assistant
3. 1-2 years' experience of EMR systems
4. 1-2 years' experience of customer service
Pay Range: $21-$23/hr
Employment Status: Full Time Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday 7:45am-2pm, Thursday-Friday 7:45am-5:00pm
