Shift Supervisor
Summary :
The Shift Supervisor is a lead position involving the use of higher levels of skill and expertise in handling critical situations and overall shelter operations in the absence of the Program Director.
The Shift Supervisor provides on-the-job coaching and guidance to shift staff, while delivering services to residents as needed.
Essential Job Functions :
The Shift Supervisor is a highly visible role requiring a mature demeanor and well thought out approach to problem solving, communications and follow-up.
The shift supervisor is responsible for being a champion of the environment and standards of performance set by the Program Director and for ensuring the objectives are carried out in his or her absence.
The shift supervisor’s role provides direction, guidance, and training for Shelter Staff, in coordination with the Program Director.
- Monitoring the daily activity and overall performance of the facility and providing guidance and direction when necessary to all staff.
- Provide periodic supervision and direction for subordinates on their shift, and as appropriate provide input to performance evaluations completed by the area supervisors.
- Assure adherence to Midway Living Policies and Practices.
- Assist in on-site training, and the scheduling for organization-wide training initiatives of staff and volunteers in coordination with the Program Director.
- May participate in the interview process and make recommendations for hiring, promotions, corrective actions and terminations.
- Assist the shelter Program Director in the planning and implementation of new procedures relating to the unit.
- Assist staff in making appropriate referrals and resolving problems which may arise between residents and staff.
- In the absence of the Program Director, assure incident reporting is thorough complete and timely.
- Act as a liaison to other agencies and attend related meetings.
- Provide direct services to residents where needed.
Secondary Job Functions :
- Perform other administrative duties which contribute to the running of the worksite, including :
- Ordering equipment and supplies; Maintaining communication with other Midway Living programs;Recording and analyzing statistics;
Other duties related to this specific function as assigned.
Supervisory Reports : Staff on duty
Knowledge and Skills :
Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Education : Experience with homeless families and knowledge of issues of homelessness, and / or residential services preferred.
