FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

Dog Kennel Assistant
Leading well established AKC-registered kennel and training facility focused on breeding, raising, training and showing top-of-class Rough Collies excelling in conformation and temperament seeks a highly responsible and dedicated individual with dog/animal care work experience to provide care for the dogs, and two resident horses, at our busy kennel in a peaceful farm-like setting.

As an important part of our team, the Kennel Assistant will help provide daily exercise and enrichment for the dogs in our care, including feeding, administering medications, cleaning kennels, providing exercise time in the kennel yards, observing dog behavior, and otherwise engaging with our sweet and playful Collies. We are proud to be an AKC Breeder of Merit and to have been named AKC Breeder of the Year in our breed. We have a lot of experience to share if someone is willing to learn and advance in the show world!

We are conveniently located in Orange County, New York.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Preparing meals and treats for the dogs and the two resident horses; feeding dogs/horses according to their individual needs;

2. Providing medications as needed;

3. Cleaning kennels and other parts of the dogs' living area; mucking out horse stalls;

4. Exercising dogs, including running small playgroups; turning out horses for their exercise time;

5. Observing dogs' behavior and interactions and reporting back to owners any unusual situations requiring attention.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of one year of paid experience working with dogs. Kennel, shelter or similar environmental experience preferred, but will consider pet sitting and other similar experience.

2. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively as a team member and work under the leadership of business owner.

3. Ability to work weekends and holidays if needed.

4. Comfortable being around many different types and sizes of dogs exhibiting a variety of behaviors.

5. Must be flexible, work well under pressure, and possess a positive attitude.

6. Must own a current version iPhone or Android device.

7. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle to be able to attend work regularly as scheduled.

8. Must be able to handle the physical rigors of working with all sizes of dogs in a blend of indoor and outdoor environments in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, snow.
