This position will be part of MNIT’s Human and Social Digital Services (HSDS) team, which supports agency teams at these state agencies: Department of Human Services (DHS), MNsure, the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), and Direct Care and Treatment (DCT). The MNIT HSDS team combines development and IT operations with a DevOps approach to ensure the reliable and efficient delivery of critical technology systems that serve counties, families, and individuals across Minnesota.

Our IT Trainee entry-level positions will train you for approximately six months. This program is designed to provide a competitive entry-point into state service where selected candidates will receive specialized training to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare you for a permanent position with Minnesota IT Services (MNIT).

For this position, individuals will be trained on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Orientation to Minnesota IT Services and Its Partner Agencies and Divisions
  • Overview of the Human and Social Digital Services Division and various teams
  • Java programming
  • Frontend development
  • Azure Cloud Part 1 – AI
  • Azure Cloud Part 2 – Container, ARO

This position requires an employee to be onsite at the Elmer L. Andersen Building (540 Cedar Street, St. Paul, Minnesota), with the option to telework occasionally.

  • Only candidates residing in Minnesota and its bordering counties are eligible for telework.
  • Candidates residing 50 miles or more from the permanent work location requires additional review prior to telework approval upon becoming a finalist.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume. Resume tips here.:

  • Critical thinking and analytical skills sufficient to complete program modules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of formats with internal and external customers.
  • Proficient with computers and programs including word processing, spreadsheets, internet, and email.
  • Demonstration of completion of some IT development-based training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications or completed course work in IT Development.
  • Demonstration of completion of some IT development-based training.
  • Experience with Java platform (source code, tools, etc.) and basic Cloud technologies.
