Job Summary
As a part of the Platform Engineering team, the Container Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, maintaining, and securing containerized applications and infrastructure within the MNIT Services environments. This role ensures that container services such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or other orchestration platforms are efficiently deployed, maintained, and compliant with MNIT security policies and federal regulatory requirements.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at the Stassen Building (600 N. Robert St., Saint Paul, Minnesota 55416) at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.

- Candidates residing 50 miles or more in Minnesota from the work address listed above may be eligible to telework more than 50%. Finalist requires an additional review prior to telework approval.
- Candidates residing 50 miles or more from the work address in a state bordering Minnesota (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are not eligible to be hired, unless planning to relocate within 50 miles of the work location in Minnesota or more than 50 miles in Minnesota.
Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of four (4) years of working with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes (or OpenShift, Rancher, etc.)
Experience must include the following:
- Strong understanding of Linux systems administration (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.).
- Understanding of cloud environments used in state agencies (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, GCP Public Sector, or private cloud solutions).
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, Helm) and CI/CD automation.
- Understanding of government cybersecurity frameworks and compliance requirements (e.g., NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, CJIS, HIPAA, SOC 2).
- Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
- Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.
