Summary
Research EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) at Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a motivated professional to join a diverse team to lead our cradle-to-grave hazardous waste management program and contribute to other areas of support.
Position Highlights:
- Primary focus will be to oversee and perform the day-to-day hazardous materials operations for Moffitt Cancer Center's Institutional Hazardous Waste Program (IHW)
- Will have significant supervisory oversight for the development and improvement of related processes in collaboration with Manager, Research EHS.
- Will have contact with the entire organization from staff to executives and on the research and clinical sides of Moffitt Cancer Center
The Ideal Candidate:
- Mixed experience as hazardous waste generator, shipper, and/or treatment and disposal
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Experience in safety and environmental compliance working with faculty and staff in a research/educational institution.
- Current Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER)
- Hazardous Materials Shipping/IATA Training
Responsibilities:
- Assist in hazardous waste handling, collection, and storage with program management oversight, conduct safety audits and routine inspections of safety equipment related to their department, coordinate chemical inventory and storage program.
- Assist in the development, content, and delivery of occupational safety training programs and serve as lead as related to hazardous waste training needs.
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of the emergency preparedness program as related to their department’s needs.
Credentials and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required in relevant field: Physical or Biological Sciences, Engineering, or Health & Safety
- Florida Driver's License required
- Hands-on experience (5 years) related to hazardous materials and waste operations in a University, Healthcare or Research Center setting.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state regulations related to hazardous waste.
- Commercial Driver's License with HazMat endorsement is preferred.
