Summary
The Research EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) at Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a motivated professional to join a diverse team in the role of Hazardous Materials Manager to lead our cradle-to-grave hazardous waste management program and contribute to other areas of support.
Position Highlights:
- Primary focus will be to oversee and lead the day-to-day hazardous materials operations for Moffitt Cancer Center
- Will have significant supervisory oversight for the development and improvement of related processes in collaboration with Manager, Research EHS.
- Will have contact with the entire organization from staff to executives and on the research and clinical sides of Moffitt Cancer Center
The Ideal Candidate:
- Hands-on research related to hazardous materials and waste operations in a University, Healthcare or Research Center setting.
- Mixed experience as generator, shipper, and/or treatment and disposal is preferred.
- Current Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) is preferred.
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Hazardous Materials Shipping/IATA Training is preferred.
- Commercial Driver's License with HazMat endorsement is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in hazardous waste handling, collection, and storage with program management oversight, conduct safety audits and routine inspections of safety equipment related to their department, coordinate chemical inventory and storage program.
- Assist in the development, content, and delivery of occupational safety training programs and serve as lead as related to hazardous materials and waste training needs.
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of the emergency preparedness program as related to their department’s needs.
Credentials and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required in relevant field: Physical or Biological Sciences, Engineering, or Health & Safety and at least 5 years of hands-on research related to hazardous materials and waste operations is required.
- Driver's License required, valid Florida driver’s license with driving record in good standing
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state regulations related to hazardous waste.
