The Hemodialysis Patient Care Technician is a member of the nursing staff who provides patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. Is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the Department and the Hospital.
Education Required
- Must complete in-house orientation program
- High school graduation or equivalent required.
Experience And Skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Speaks, reads and writes English
- Hemodialysis technician training course required.
- Dialysis experience strongly preferred.
License/Certifications
- Certification required for employees with 18-months of HPCT experience. Acceptable certifications include: State Hemodialysis PCT certification or BONENT certification or CCHT certification by the Nephrology Nursing Commission or CCNT.
- BLS certification for the Health Care Provider by the American Heart Association
Working Conditions
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worn
- Primarily standing.
- Ability to bend, transport patients from wheelchair and stretcher to dialysis chair and bed.
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
- Walk distances from within unit and throughout the hospital. Escort patients to and from unit.
