Description

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a NICU Registered Nurse to join our team!

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

  1. Provide care for infants immediately after birth.
  2. Oversee the care of infant patients in the NICU.
  3. Troubleshoot and maintain NICU equipment.
  4. Consult with parents/guardians on aftercare and long-term health management for infants.
  5. Educate new parents on basic infant care including breastfeeding, hygiene and safety.
  6. Perform tests ordered by the obstetrician or nurse practitioner and evaluate the result.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  2. Ability to perform vital signs, initial admission, head-to-toe assessments on preterm, term, and post-term sick infants and post-partum adults.
  3. Able to offer family centered care for a postpartum mother and baby on the mother-baby unit.
  4. Ability to operate a variety of equipment related to infant support and care in the CCN. Ex: chest tube set up, UAC set up, assist with needle aspiration, IV maintenance etc.
  5. Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines.
  6. Implements a teaching plan to parents on identified learning need and evaluate effectiveness of learning (family is included as appropriate).
  7. Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan on an ongoing basis.
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by each patient group.
  9. Communicates appropriately, clearly, and respectfully to other charge nurses, co-workers, supervisor, and physicians.
  10. Consults with other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  11. Coordinates and supervises patient care, as necessary.
  12. Demonstrates an ability to assist providers with procedures in the CCN and perinatal unit.
  13. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and to function under stressful situations.
  14. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  15. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  16. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  17. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department, with other departments, and with other facilities.
  18. Written and electronic documentation meets current standard and policies.
  19. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  20. Manages and operates CCN equipment safely and correctly. Reports broken equipment immediately per protocol.
  21. Able to perform all newborn screening, blood sampling, and discharge procedures.
  22. Ability to perform all discharge teaching, follow up instruction to parents in detail according to policy and procedure.
  23. Implements consultations and referrals as needed.
  24. Demonstrates the ability to use Healthstream and completes assigned modules.
  25. Demonstrates the ability to access the Policy and Procedure Manual on the hospital intranet.
  26. Communicates effectively in English. Bilingual skills are beneficial.
  27. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

  9. Demonstrates willingness to perform tasks of a reasonable nature as directed by the NICU Charge Nurse, CTL, or Manager.
  10. Upholds Mountain View Hospital confidentiality policy.
  11. Supports supervisors and adheres to hospital policies in a positive and constructive manner.
  12. Treats employee wages and salaries confidentially.
  13. Initiates action to prevent the occurrence of any potential problems or nonconformities relating to patient care or supporting activities.
  14. Initiates, recommends, or provides solutions through designated channels.
  15. Maintains competency through education, training, and in-service activities.
  16. Supports and attends on-going education on the unit.
  17. Promotes positive communication in the work environment.
  18. Does not gossip or cause contention among co-workers.
  19. Participates in performance improvement activities and quality assurance.
  20. Meet requirements for quarterly bonus.
  21. Reads emails weekly.

Qualifications


Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited school or nursing. Current valid RN license with the state of Idaho. Proof of completion of the following courses is required either at time of hire, or within the time frame designated.

CPSI electronic medical record training.

BLS Healthcare Provider Neonatal Resuscitation Program within three (3) months of hire.

ACLS within six (6) months of hire.

STABLE within six (6) months of hire.

PALS/PEARS within twelve (12) months of hire.

AWOHNN beginners course within 18months of hire. -Complete NICU orientation competency during new hire orientation, and thereafter complete yearly ongoing competency. -Working knowledge of the human anatomy and its application to the well and sick neonatal patient.

 

Experience: Previous CCN or NICU experience preferred.



Equipment/Technology: Basic Computer Skills. Able to use a variety of medical devices including, but not limited to: I.V. pumps, radiant warmers, Neonatal monitoring devices, Newborn medication administration, and respiratory equipment. Language/Communication: Excellent communication skills and leadership capability.

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate drug dosages.

 

Mental Capabilities: Poses critical thinking skills and organization. Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and optimal outcome.

 

Interpersonal: Able to work well with others. Able to de-escalate volatile situations. Able to offer and consider constructive instruction. Possess leadership abilities.
