What are the responsibilities and job description for the Editor, MSNBC Breaking News and Blogs position at MSNBC?
We’re looking for an experienced editor to help oversee MSNBC’s Breaking News and Blogs team on a six-month contract. You will work closely with the MSNBC Digital executive editor as well as the site’s breaking news reporters, live bloggers and editors. You will have excellent judgment, a deep understanding of journalistic standards, and a track record that proves you can hew to the standards of the NBCU News Group. You will have superb editing skills, an understanding of what stories are most important, especially in the intersectional politics space, an eye for entertaining and unique angles, and a proven track record of success managing a team of writers and editors in a fast-tempo newsroom.
PLEASE NOTE: this is a six-month contract position.
This position is represented by the Writers Guild of America — East.
What you will do:
- Oversee a team of breaking news, politics and legal news reporters and editors
- Assign, field pitches and edit breaking and trending news of the day
- Help run the MSNBC live blog as needed
- Liaise with the MSNBC linear, art, social, platforms and product teams
- Coordinate breaking news and blog content to ensure editorial cohesiveness
- Meet NBCU News Group’s rigorous Standards and Legal guidelines
- Ensure the tone and mix of content is in line with MSNBC cable
- Read widely and stay abreast of the competition
Qualifications/requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience
- 7 years working in a newsroom environment, including experience with breaking news
- 4 years working in a strictly digital shop
- 2 years managing a team of writers and editors
- Must have demonstrated experience with assigning and editing stories
- Must have experience working with live blogs
- Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment
- Must be a skilled editor with outstanding communication skills
- Must be professional, organized and nimble when working across newsroom teams, platforms and with partners
Salary : $93,000 - $110,000
