What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ceramic Technician (Part-Time) position at Mt. Hood Community College?
Essential Duties
- Assists in maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient ceramics facility.
- Mixes reclaimed clay.
- Mixes and maintains glazes and slips.
- Prepares, loads, fires, and unloads kilns.
- Assists in tracking inventory and restocking of materials.
- Assists with kiln maintenance and construction.
- Communicates ceramics studio schedule and policies with students.
- Assists with ceramics studio and clay club events.
- Staffs open studio hours, and monitors student usage of equipment and facilities. Works with the ceramics faculty to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Helps supervise any ceramics work-study students.
Additional Duties
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Minimum (2) years college level or practical experience working in a studio environment that includes: loading and firing of reduction, soda/salt, wood, and electric kilns; and mixing glazes, slips, and clay
- Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends
- Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for prolonged periods and repeatedly lift objects up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work collaboratively with students and faculty.
- Ability to work independently and a commitment to learning new tasks
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Work is typically performed in a studio environment. Must be able to sit, stand and/or walk for prolonged periods and repeatedly lift objects up to 50 lbs.
