Key Responsibilities
Skill Development: Teach and oversee rock climbing skills under the guidance of the Head Coach. Contribute to long-term training plans, including setting goals and evaluating progress.
Coaching Excellence: Motivate and inspire climbers, fostering skill development and progression. Assist at competitive and recreational events.
Communication: Maintain clear and professional communication with climbers, parents, and staff.
Event Participation: Travel with the team to competitions, providing on-site coaching support.
Program Enhancement: Identify and communicate ongoing needs of the climbing program, contributing to reports and promoting a positive experience.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure a safe environment by recognizing potential hazards and taking appropriate action. Uphold the MAC code of conduct.
Team Collaboration: Participate in staff meetings, clinics, and workshops. Support the Head Coach and Outdoor Manager as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
Proficient in top rope and lead belaying with an Assisted Braking Device (ABD) or willingness to learn upon hire.
Minimum of 1 year experience working with children in the climbing industry.
Minimum of 1 year experience in customer service or industry equivalent.
CPR, First Aid, AED certification (or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire).
SafeSport certification (or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire).
USA Climbing Level 2 coach certification (or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire).
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
Must pass a background check.
Preferred:
2 years of coaching experience.
4 years of personal climbing experience.
Experience coaching all competitive climbing disciplines.
Route setting experience with relevant USAC certifications.
Proficiency in basic computer skills and office procedures.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Comfortable and safe working at varying heights.
Ability to lift up to 50lbs and work in awkward positions.
Frequent walking, stooping, bending, and squatting.
Standing for extended periods.
Routine exposure to noise and potential for minor first aid situations.
Tools & Equipment Proficiency with climbing tools, ropes, hardware, medical equipment, multi-line telephones, Windows OS, and software applications (Word, Excel).
