Position Summary
The GIS Technician is a vital member of our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team, specializing in field data collection, digitization, and mapping projects. This role is essential for capturing accurate geographic data using GPS technology, which is critical for our planning and operational processes. The GIS Technician is responsible for digitizing construction plans and easements, ensuring these assets are accurately represented in our GIS databases. By maintaining and updating spatial information, the GIS Technician supports the integrity and enhancement of our data systems, directly impacting the efficiency and effectiveness of our projects. This position plays a key role in supporting our commitment to precision and reliability in spatial data management.
Essential Functions:

Data Management: Maintain and update geographic information (GIS) databases by collecting, verifying, and integrating GIS data from multiple sources. Ensure the accuracy and utility of this data across all operations.

Field Data Collection: Collect GPS data in the field to verify the location and condition of infrastructure. This critical task ensures that GIS databases accurately reflect real-world configurations and support precise spatial analyses.

Map Creation: Design and generate maps and perform basic spatial analyses to support project and operational needs. Utilize GIS software to visualize and interpret geographic data, aiding teams in understanding spatial patterns and relationships.

Project Support: Collaborate with multiple departments to provide GIS support for projects. Prepare GIS data, maps, and visual presentations contributing to project planning and decision-making processes.

Technical Assistance: Provide technical support to team members on GIS-related issues, ensuring effective utilization of GIS tools and resources across the organization.

Data Accuracy: Conduct regular audits of GIS data to ensure high accuracy levels. Maintain up-to-date and reliable data as a key performance metric.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Education:

Required: High School diploma or General Education Development (GED)

Preferred: GIS Certification OR Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience:

Required: At least (1) one year of experience working with GIS fieldwork technologies AND demonstrated experience using ESRI software.

Preferred: Over (1) one year of extensive experience in GIS, including working on GIS projects and supporting GIS users within an organization. Proficiency with GIS software and related technologies.
Training and Certificates
Preferred: GIS Certifications from ESRI or Accredited Universities.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Office Setting: You will primarily work in an office environment, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, and printers.

Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law).
