Position: Campus Ministry Safety Manager

The Campus Ministry Safety Manager, under the direction of the Program Director, is responsible for ensuring a safe and welcoming environment at the New Life Center campus. This role leads the Shelter Ministry Support Staff and oversees contracted security personnel as needed. With a strong emphasis on presence, consistency, and compassion, the manager plays a vital role in protecting both people and the mission, while creating a culture that reflects Christ’s love. This position also functions as a ministry leader, actively sharing the hope of Jesus with guests and modeling Gospel-centered engagement for the team. The manager encourages guests toward faith, recovery and real transformation while equipping staff to do the same.
Essential Responsibilities
Essential Responsibility 1: Team Leadership & Oversight
- Supervise, schedule, and lead Shelter Ministry Support Staff across all shifts.
- Maintain safety teams visibility in all critical areas of campus.
- Provide hands-on coaching in hospitality, de-escalation, and policy enforcement.
- Facilitate consistent shift change meetings and ensure accurate hand-offs between shifts.
- Oversee and coordinate with contracted security personnel, ensuring alignment with NLC expectations.
- Train new and current staff on guest intakes, Mission Tracker documentation, use of security cameras, guest discharges, and incident reporting.
Essential Responsibility 2: Safety and Incident Response
- Maintain a visible, steady presence on campus and respond directly to behavioral or emergency situations.
- Ensure all guests entering or re-entering the building pass through a metal detector and search process each time they return.
- Lead or support emergency preparedness efforts, including drills and protocols for fire, severe weather, active shooter, and medical emergencies.
- Oversee documentation of all incidents in Mission Tracker and ensure timely escalation to leadership.
- Monitor and maintain safety systems, including radio communications, cameras, alarms, panic buttons, and AEDs.
- Conduct routine walkthroughs and safety inspections of the campus to identify hazards, observe guest activity, and collaborate with staff on necessary corrective actions.
Essential Responsibility 3: Campus Environment and Hospitality
- Promote a consistent culture of love, safety, and accountability in all guest interactions.
- Address guest behavior in alignment with shelter rules and a faith-based approach of love and compassion.
- Ensure common areas are clean, welcoming, and conducive to a healthy community environment.
- Support other departments in enforcing expectations, coordinating walkthroughs, and maintaining campus order.
Essential Responsibility 4: Ministry & Engagement
- Model the Gospel in word and deed, offering hope, truth, and encouragement to guests.
- Lead your team in ministry, helping staff share the Gospel, pray with guests, and encourage participation in church and recovery meetings.
- Build strong, supportive relationships with guests while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Minister in moments of crisis or opportunity, pointing people to Christ.
Essential Responsibility 5: Community & Compliance Coordination
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local emergency services, including law enforcement, fire, and EMS.
- Ensure alignment with local and state regulations and safety compliance standards.
- Participate in the review and refinement of emergency procedures and guest conduct policies.
- Stay current on trends in campus security, trauma-informed care, and community shelter best practices.
Position Reports to Billy Barnett, Program Director
Billy has been part of the ministry team since 2020 and oversees programs, including emergency and recovery services, supervision of shelter and case management staff, and database administration. Before joining the Mission, Billy worked in recovery ministries, helping individuals find freedom from addiction.

Qualifications
Personal:
- Must be engaged in a local church and exhibit a personal, evident, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

- Willingness to serve others.
- Desire to see the lost transformed through the love of Christ.
Required Education and Experience:
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Preferred Education and experience:
- Law enforcement, corrections (jailer), military, or private security backgrounds strongly encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, or mental illness preferred.
- AA or BA or higher degree in criminal justice, behavioral health, social work, ministry, or a related field is preferred.
- Ideal candidates may possess one or more of the following:
- POST Certification (Peace Officer Standards & Training)
- Military Police or Security Forces experience
- Correctional Officer / Jail Certification
- Security Guard License, OC Spray Certification, Use-of-Force or CIT (Crisis Intervention Training)
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
- Valid driver’s license with clean record; background check required.
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and frontline guest-facing work in a fast-paced, high-responsibility setting.
- Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Fast-paced environment with occasional exposure to crisis and behavioral health challenges.
Skills:
- Proven ability to lead a team and respond to crisis situations with wisdom and calm.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data systems (Mission Tracker or similar).
