What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at New Mexico Highlands University?
Housing & Student Conduct Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment for assigned areas. Duty areas include the assigned areas for Student Housing Complexes, Residence Halls and Campus Apartments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement upon completion of probationary period.
- Vacuum, sweep, and empty trash receptacles;
- Clean fixtures, blinds, pictures, shelves, drapes and ashtrays;
- Wash windows;
- Clean restrooms and kitchens;
- Move furniture and perform set-ups as necessary;
- Shampoo carpets, strip and wax floor as required;
- Shovel snow in entryways as required;
- Mop floors on a regular basis;
- Maintain regular attendance;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED
- EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months demonstrated related experience
- Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, odd hours, and emergency calls;
- Must be able to speak and write in English.

- Knowledge of general custodial duties, practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of properly handling hazardous chemicals and materials;
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques;
- Knowledge of safety procedures;
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions;
- Ability to read and write effectively.
- Ability to perform routine custodial duties.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty and students University community and the general public.
