Duties Description
The Laboratory of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry (LINC) is a fully accredited laboratory responsible for monitoring New York State’s nuclear power plants, responding to requests for radiological laboratory support for statewide incidents, participating to radiological emergency response activities, and protecting the food supply from harmful radioactive contamination. A Research Scientist is needed to provide technical and scientific support for nuclear regulatory matters and oversee day-to day quality assurance for all radioactivity measurements in environmental and food samples.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in physics, chemistry, or natural sciences and three years of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in coding for scientific instrumentation and calculations, preferrably in Python or similar language. Experience working in an accredited environmental testing laboratory and/or nuclear industry, including knowledge of Quality Assurance/Quality Control practices, record keeping, and adherance to Standard Operating Procedures. Knowledge of nuclear instrumentation such as liquid scintillation counting, gamma spectrometry, and gas proportional counting, including set up, use, and troubleshooting. Familiarity with radiation analysis software such as GENIE-2000.
