Position Specific Description
NextEra is driving the clean energy revolution through its industry-leading residential solar software platform and financing program. Every day, NextEra supports hundreds of solar companies across the US, ensuring they have the tools to be successful and accelerate consumer adoption of clean energy.
NextEra has an ambitious vision to enable the decarbonization of the home and we're looking for a Director, Business Development to lead a new team within NextEra responsible for identifying significant market opportunities for NextEra's clean energy solutions and designing new commercial offerings to penetrate those opportunities. Near-term priorities include launching NextEra's virtual power plant offering and collaborating with affiliate groups to offer their products and services on NextEra platform. Leader is expected to take initiative - any opportunity that increases revenue for NextEra is fair game.
We are looking for a commercially - minded business development professional with a deep understanding of the energy space and strong record of accomplishment working cross functionally to identify and implement new commercial programs and products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional team to develop new and innovative commercial offerings, deploy pilots and then develop programmatic approach to scale
- Perform market sizing, business case development, competitive analysis, and regulatory diligence to qualify new market/ product opportunities and inform go-to-market strategies
- Identify and engage initial customers to test new commercial offerings
- Identify and develop strategic partnerships in support of new market/product strategies
- Oversee the development of modeling tools, legal/ commercial documents and marketing materials to support new product/market launch
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise regarding wholesale power markets; familiarity with distributed energy resources is required; experience with residential solar and virtual power plants highly preferred.
- Fluency with energy sector financial models, transaction structures, and business models
- Tangible track record of business development in the cleantech and/or renewables sector
- Strong understanding of the clean energy industry current trends, emerging technologies, and commercial opportunities
- Skilled in customer-facing presentations, communications, content including developing value propositions and use cases
- Ability to collaborate, influence others and solve complex problems
