Information and Communications Technology Systems Engineer


We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified, knowledgeable Low Voltage and Telecom Wiring Technician with experience working with IP/POE based network endpoints including IP networks, Access Control Systems, Security Camera Systems, Nurse Call Systems and other low voltage systems.  As our Low Voltage and Telecom Wiring Technician installing and upgrading wiring infrastructure and assisting servicing various brands of IP Security Camera (CCTV), Access Control systems in new and retrofit environments, installing LAN/WLAN wiring and testing/terminating cable. Responsibilities include validating system installs, planning and coordinating installation with Operations Manager, able to perform service tasks at client locations, ability to troubleshoot, repair, modify or integrate existing customer systems.
  • Perform field Installation or on-site service of IP Networks, IP Phone Systems, Access Control, IP Camera and NVR Camera Servers
  • Physically able to climb, crawl, lift heavy objects up to 75 pounds and work in small spaces
  • Determining best pathways for running low voltage electrical wiring and performing on-site surveys to determine needs and required equipment to complete assigned task
  • Complete all wiring, terminations, and equipment installations ensuring that systems are complete and satisfy customer and contractual requirements.
  • Troubleshoot new system installations to ensure proper function and to ensure system meets local, county, state, or federal codes.
  • Proper documentation of installation issues/actions/resolutions both internally and externally (acceptance forms, service tickets, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by direct supervisor/manager
  • Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing copper and fiber optic cables.
  • Mounts telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, infrastructure devices, cable trays, and alarm systems
  • Installation of racks and cabinets all while following industry standards, best practices and manufacturer   requirements.
  • Install cable pathway systems (cable trays, cable racks, J-hooks or D-rings) by using power or manual fasteners, drills or other power equipment.
  • Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions
  • Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal requirements
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Must have knowledge of basic computer skills and be able to demonstrate good writing skills.
  • Must work well with little supervision individually and in a team environment
Primary office in Schaumburg, IL and client locations throughout IL, IN, WI, MI, MO

May include project based incentivized travel up to 20% of the time

Must be able to pass an employee background screening and credentials verification
  • Hours per week: 30-50
  • Typical start time:  8-10 AM
  • Typical end time:   4-6 PM
  • Employee is expected to work the required extended workday to complete the assigned daily task when required
  • 8 hour day minimum, 5 days a week

Requirements


Experience / Work History Requirements:


Candidate MUST possess ONE or more of the following bold items AT A MINIMUM for consideration:
  • Access Control Systems Installer/Tech, IP Cameras and IP NVR Installer/Tech, Data Closet Hardware Installation, Low Voltage Ethernet, Fiber Optic, IP Camera, Access Control, and Alarm Wiring Experience : 2 years


Candidate will be given preferred treatment and additional salary consideration if any of the following criteria is met:
  • IP Based Network Technician Experience: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Verifiable military training or experience with cabling design and/or surveillance/access control systems installation (within 3 years)
  • Valid manufacturer training certificates or certifications for the relevant product lines being offered by Nexus
  • 5 years recent, verifiable equivalent experience in the skillsets described above
  • Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI) - Copper or Fiber
  • BICSI Installer 1 or 2 (Copper or Fiber)
  • BICSI Technician
  • BICSI RCDD
  • IL Alarm Installer’s License Holder
  • Burglar Alarm and Fire Alarm System Installation Experience and Licensing Not Required but Desirable
Candidate must meet all of the basic job requirements listed below:

  • Have a valid driver’s license, maintain a clean driving record and valid coverage on personal vehicle
  • Have a reliable method of transportation to travel to and from job sites or to office to utilize company vehicle
  • Attend all assigned training sessions and pass any required certifications as determined by management
  • Maintain consistent on-time clock-in/clock out history and reliable attendance record
  • Ability to use a variety of general and specialty hand tools and test equipment
  • Must maintain a safe and secure work environment at all times both physically and through all personal interactions
  • Must have the ability to discern colors used for safety and telecommunications terminations.
  • Willing to work in tight, confined areas and stand in one place for long periods of time as needed
  • Ability to carry heavy loads as needed. Ability to carry and climb ladders as needed.
  • Typical schedule is M-F 8-4 but willingness to work days, nights and weekends as required is necessary.
  • Up to 20% of the time incentivized out of town travel may be required. 
  • Willingness to submit to pre-employment background screening and sign employment based NDA and NCA
  • Willing to submit to drug/alcohol screenings at the discretion of management at any time during the course of employment
