Director of Special Education
Full-time position (52 weeks)
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent (or designee)
Niles Community Schools is looking for dynamic Director of Special Education. Highly-effective communication skills and professionalism required for daily interaction with a diverse workforce, student population, building administration and community.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in Special Education
- Full approval in at least one area of Special Education
- Approval as a Director of Special Education or eligible for approval
- Valid Michigan school administrator certification
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
- Valid driver’s license
Performance Responsibilities (non-prioritized):
- Establishes and maintains special classes and services for all students with disabilities
- Guide the development and implementation of long-range and short-range plans for achieving
- Special Education goals and objectives in alignment with the school district’s strategic plan
- Direct Special Education services for all students with disabilities and ensure that students have
- access to the schools district’s core curriculum
- Prepares all financial and program reports required by the State Department of Education
- Plans and administers the budget for Special Education services
- Oversee Extended School Year programs
- Oversee Special Needs Transportation
- Oversee Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training
- Support district SEL and PBIS initiatives
