Director of Special Education

Full-time position (52 weeks)

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent (or designee)

Niles Community Schools is looking for dynamic Director of Special Education. Highly-effective communication skills and professionalism required for daily interaction with a diverse workforce, student population, building administration and community.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in Special Education
  • Full approval in at least one area of Special Education
  • Approval as a Director of Special Education or eligible for approval
  • Valid Michigan school administrator certification
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Valid driver’s license

Performance Responsibilities (non-prioritized):

  • Establishes and maintains special classes and services for all students with disabilities
  • Guide the development and implementation of long-range and short-range plans for achieving
  • Special Education goals and objectives in alignment with the school district’s strategic plan
  • Direct Special Education services for all students with disabilities and ensure that students have
  • access to the schools district’s core curriculum
  • Prepares all financial and program reports required by the State Department of Education
  • Plans and administers the budget for Special Education services
  • Oversee Extended School Year programs
  • Oversee Special Needs Transportation
  • Oversee Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training
  • Support district SEL and PBIS initiatives
