JOB OBJECTIVE |
The Iron and Steel Worker will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining the structural components of buildings and bridges made of iron and steel. They work in a variety of settings including construction sites, factories, and industrial plants. This job requires physical strength, manual dexterity, and a deep understanding of the principles of construction. |
REQUIREMENTS |
EXPERIENCE - Must have 4 years’ experience as a Structural Ironworker.
- Must be able to take lead in erection of steel, fabrication, grid layout, rigging etc.
- Must have knowledge of all types of safe rigging practices (chokers, slings, etc.)
- Must have a valid Driver's License.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must pass drug and background check.
- Must possess a NCCER
KNOWLEDGE - Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
- Identify all tools required for tasks.
- Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
- Fabricate equipment according to blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
- Hoist equipment and tools into location via bull rigging or crane.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, and/or levels.
- Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors.
- Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting or bolting.
- Pull, push, or pry iron/steel equipment into approximate positions for bolting into place.
- Cut, bend, and weld iron/steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment.
- Ability to read and understand IFC drawings.
- Make a hang list, read details off drawings, read all notes on drawings before erection, locate and understand ECN’s and holds on drawings.
- Understand when to stop production work and when an RFI needs to be initiated.
- Read and understand craft specs and cut sheets, craft spec procedures and recommendations.
- Locate piece marks for correct views and know how to pick out different elevations.
- Basic knowledge of welding (machine set up, Mig, stick, gas, ect)
- Knowledge of cutting torch, set up, dangers, usage, cleaning, types of tips and when to use the different types of tips.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS |
- Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting.
- Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension.
- Will talk and hear to communicate.
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
- May be required to pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
- Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off platforms/scaffolding using the appropriate fall protection requirements.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves and leather steel-toed work boots.
