    General Purpose: Works with a certified Media Specialist who is responsible for the day-to-day operation necessary to adequately run and maintain a school library. The library assistant will encourage a love of reading; maintain a safe, welcoming, respectful environment; and work with staff to support student learning.

    Reports To: Librarian / Building Administrator

    Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • 18 years of age or older
    • Previous experience in a school or public library desirable
    • Strong clerical abilities
    • Technology and computer skills
    • Experience with office software
    • Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, staff and general public
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
    • Ability to demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for students
    • Such alternative to the above requirements as the School Board or the Administration may deem appropriate

    Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):
    • Organizes and maintains the library for most effective use by students and the staff.
    • Monitors the circulation procedures, checks materials in and out, issues overdue notices, oversees pupil traffic, assists staff and students in selection of materials, keeps circulation records, and trains student assistants as needed.
    • Participates in reading programs for students and possesses the ability for positive interaction with students and staff.
    • Organizes attractive displays for reading motivation.
    • Schedule and facilitate the use of library resources and equipment.
    • Facilitate access to digital resources such as educational subscriptions, online databases, and e-book collections.
    • Participate in in-service programs as assigned.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff records and transactions.
    • Train and direct the work of volunteers and student assistants in the library.
    • Act as a friendly ambassador for the North Bend School District.
    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
    • Possess and maintain a valid First Aid card as required
    • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance/FBI Background check
    • Blood borne Pathogen Training/Hepatitis B Shot Series Training as required
    • SafeSchools Training as required
