What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher of Students with Visual Impairment (TVI) position at Northshore Education Consortium?

Position Summary: Seeking full- or part-time certified TVI or student finishing coursework in an accredited Masters Program for Teacher of Students with Visual Impairment to join our team of TVIs and COMS! We are willing to provide paid practicum and support in becoming a licenced TVI in exchange for expected job fulfillment for specified amount of time to be determined at interview. Massachusetts Department of Education Certification expected within a year of hire. Dual certification in TVI and O&M or Deaf-Blindness welcomed.

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired provides direct and consultative vision services to students ages 3-22 with low vision, blindness, and CVI, as well as students with multiple disabilities in a 10-month school year position. Summer work is optional for additional hourly compensation. Services are provided to Consortium Member towns on Bostons North Shore and in other districts. Mass.

Teachers Retirement Pension with AFT Union support to ensure fair and equitable pay, pay increases and working conditions.Travel between schools/districts is required and mileage is reimbursed. Yearly phone stipend and computer or iPad provided. Competitive salary and benefits. Specific Duties: Consult with TEAM Members: Schedule and maintain communication among team members.

Conduct student assessments in functional vision, learning media and/or CVI Range and produce a comprehensive report in a timely manner. Assess students to determine current performance level and evaluate progress. Assist students in achieving independence and make recommendations for development in the Expanded Core Curriculum. Instruct students in the use of assistive technology devices, apps and software specific to low vision and blindness.Please see specific job description for complete details.Qualifications: Excellent teamwork, communication and organization skills needed.

Ability to communicate in a highly effective manner. Braille proficiency and current knowledge of assistive and adaptive technology preferred.Education/Training/Experience: Bachelors or advanced degree in teaching visually impaired. MA DESE teaching license as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairment. Dual certification in TVI and O&M or Deaf-Blindness welcomed.
