What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds Crew Team Lead - Norwich University position at Norwich University?
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by maintaining the University facilities and property. Assists General Services as assigned and performs associated Facilities Operations work as requested in all facets of maintenance operations. Work shifts include day, evening and weekend hours and required overtime.
Essential Functions
- Oversees and inspects the work assigned to the grounds team.
- Trains staff on proper use of equipment.
- Implements strategies that will accomplish desired quality performance standards.
- Ensures that grounds team has the proper equipment to perform all types of assignments.
- Ensures that grounds team are in proper Norwich uniform.
- Reports maintenance work orders.
- Helps establish and maintain inter-departmental relations with all departments and the University' community.
- Prepares, establishes, and maintains turf and landscape beds.
- Mows lawns.
- Prunes and trims trees and vegetation.
- Collects and removes trash, litter, and recycling daily from campus grounds.
- Oversees event room setups related to University events.
- Removes snow and ice from steps, roads, walkways, and elsewhere on campus.
- Performs preventive maintenance on assigned tools and equipment.
- Drives University vehicles as certified driver to include pickup; trucks, golf carts, and light utility vehicles.
- Assists with custodial tasks to include; collecting trash and recyclables, moving furniture, and cleaning-buffing-shampooing floors and carpets.
- Performs all tasks in a safe manner in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

- Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
- Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
- Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
- Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
- Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent or two years of related experience; vocational training a plus
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
- Valid driver's license required
- Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check and physical exam
- Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 100 pounds and push or pull up to 150 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
- Some overtime/weekend/evening hours may be required

- Indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- High level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
