This is a fast-paced, challenging position central to our purchasing team. The position is responsible for material planning, scheduling, negotiating, and procurement of assigned commodities to ensure a stable supply of materials needed for production. Using analytics and product knowledge, the ideal candidate will make recommendations about stock totals, cost control, delivery performance and supplier quality, all while ensuring that the company meets its delivery, quality, and financial objectives. Work on problems with diverse scope where analysis of situations or data require a review of identifiable factors.
Specific Responsibilities: Below highlights key responsibilities, but is not all inclusive:
- Plan, prepare and process, daily requisitions and purchase orders in order to support production needs utilizing MRP and internal request procedures.
- Monitor material requirements and expedite/push deliveries as required to synchronize supply chain inventory with customer demand to mitigate excess and obsolete inventory.
- Negotiate key business metrics with suppliers, such as cost reductions, inventory agreements, lead time reduction and supplier payment terms
- Pro-actively communicate purchase order status with internal customers (i.e., engineering, sales, and management).
- Establish and maintain order policies and lead times for product.
- Request pricing quotes from suppliers for materials or services to determine the best source of supply
- Review suppliers to keep abreast of new capabilities, products and techniques.
- Research sources of supply and services to maintain flexibility, high quality and competitive pricing in the supplier base.
- Analyze and complete supplier performance reviews and address corrective actions accordingly.
- Coordinate efforts with suppliers and engineering as requested.
- Support lean manufacturing activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
General tasks
- Strict compliance with the quality, occupational safety and environmental regulations.
- Implementation of the instructions of the quality / environmental management representative and the occupational safety specialist.
Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies
- BA or BS degree preferred with emphasis in supply chain management
- 3 years of progressively responsible purchasing and materials control experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience with APAC suppliers is a plus.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of MS Office. Ability to rapidly learn new software/programs as needs arise. Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment; Oracle experience a plus.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret mechanical drawings to effectively communicate the designs or discrepancies from shipments to supplier should questions arise.
- Knowledge and continuous education in materials management theories, processes and practices.
- Highly effective and professional verbal and written communication skills with team, internal customers and suppliers
- Exhibit & encourage sense of urgency, highly energetic and success driven.
- Multi-task and prioritize projects and primary responsibilities.
- Ability to negotiate key business metrics, such as cost reductions, inventory agreements, and supplier payment terms
- Strong analytical, conceptual, problem solving, and negotiation skills.
