What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Development Representative (BDR) position at Novum Home Loans?

About Novum Home Loans

Novum Home Loans is on a mission to provide advice and value to the military community through their home buying journey. While we specialize in VA Loans, we offer many types of home loans to anyone looking to buy or refinance and home.

The military community deserve better: better information, better service, and a better deal - especially when it comes to something as high-stakes as buying a home. Most lenders are ill-equipped to serve the military community, or worse yet, they bank on you not knowing what you don't know. That gap is where good people get taken advantage of, delayed, or denied value they should've had. Novum is built to change that.

Role

As a Business Development Representative at Novum, you’ll be on the front line of connecting with prospective homebuyers - especially veterans, active service members, and first-time buyers - to introduce them to Novum’s personalized mortgage solutions and educational support. You will build meaningful relationships, qualify leads, and set the stage for a great experience with our Loan Officers.

This role is ideal for someone with high energy, strong communication skills, a consultative mindset, and a passion for helping people achieve homeownership.

What You’ll Do

  • Engage Prospective Homebuyers: Outreach to new leads via phone, email, text, and social platforms to build rapport and trust.
  • Qualify & Educate: Ask thoughtful questions to understand the buyer’s goals (timeline, loan type interest, military benefits, etc.) and provide clear, educational insights on loan options.
  • Manage Pipeline: Track and nurture a strong pipeline of opportunities in our CRM; update lead status and interactions accurately.
  • Handoff to Loan Officers: Prepare qualified prospects with context and insights that help Loan Officers convert those opportunities into pre-approvals and closings.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with marketing, operations, and compliance teams to refine outreach approaches and ensure consistent messaging.
  • Feedback & Market Insight: Share field feedback and customer trends to help improve Novum’s process, content, and product positioning.

Who You Are

  • Customer-First Communicator: You connect easily, listen actively, and simplify complex concepts into understandable guidance.
  • Mission-Driven: You care about helping veterans, military families, and all borrowers confidently navigate the mortgage process.
  • Coachable & Competitive: You thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy learning new skills, and chase personal and team success.
  • Organized & Tech-Savvy: Comfortable with CRM systems, sales outreach tools, and tracking performance metrics.
  • Experience: Previous experience in sales, customer service, or outreach is a plus (not required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–3 years in a customer-facing, sales, or lead qualification role.
  • Strong phone presence - comfortable making outreach calls and handling inbound inquiries.
  • Ability to work in a goal-oriented environment with measurable KPIs.

What You’ll Gain

  • Foundational Sales Training: Structured onboarding and continuous mentorship.
  • Career Path: Clear trajectory toward Senior BDR, Loan Officer support roles, and potential advancement into production or leadership positions.
  • Impact: Directly support helping people — particularly veterans — achieve one of the most important financial goals of their lives.

Why Novum?

We help military families and Veterans buy or refinance homes with competitive rates, clear advice and a smoother experience - because we understand what makes a military family's situation different. Come join a fast paced, fast growing company who is on a mission to help the military community!
