Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Genetic Counselor.

The Genetic Counselor -Center for Human Genetics & Genomics and Department of Medicine will work as part of a combined clinical and research team, investigating the molecular genetic basis of inflammatory diseases, through the Center for Autoimmune and Autoinflammatory Genetic Diseases. The position will be responsible for all aspects of the clinical research study, in which we are actively recruiting study subjects, as well as manage phenotype and genotype data from other genetics projects in the laboratory. The position will also have clinical responsibilities related to patients seen within the Center for Autoimmune and Autoinflammatory Genetic Diseases.

The position will interface directly with patients/subjects and the Principal Investigator in support of the clinical genetics research studies; undertake protocol development for future genetic/genomic studies; undertake patient recruitment/ascertainment process, enrollment, and study coordination; serve as liaison with internal and external collaborators and funding agencies; and, ensure the faithful execution of research protocols in accordance with Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA by balancing the obligations to patient/subject, Principal Investigator, research team and sponsor(s). Works autonomously and with limited oversight.

Job Responsibilities:

Human Subjects' Research - As applicable, submits and updates necessary documents required by the NYU Institutional Board (IRB), NYU Office of Clinical Trials and any other appropriate parties in order to obtain approval to conduct human subjects' research. Secures accurate signatures and forwards documents and/or forms to appropriate destination. Might prepare and submit monthly enrollment statistics to the Office of Clinical Trials and provide other information in timely manner, as necessary.

* Recruitment & Research Activities - Respond to in-person, e-mail and phone inquiries from research
patients, research investigators and health care providers regarding Dr. David Beck's genetics program. The needs are to explain the research study, obtain informed consent and medical/ surgical/pathological information in a confidential manner, and, coordinate collection of blood and tissue samples. Maintain and update database and files organizing this information.
* Study Regulations - Maintains awareness of federal/state/local study regulatory status and keeps an up to date copy of regulatory documents. Assists with the informed consent process and ensure that the patient/subject fully understands what is required of them throughout the study. Obtains and documents informed consent. Follows through regularly with the patient/subjects and reminds them of visits and compliance.
* Clinical Competency - may require competency in performing, handling, storing and shipping of blood, saliva or other tissue and DNA specimens. Ability to determine appropriate genetic and immunologic testing for clinical and research indications with careful sample logging. In house training and certification will be provided. Other trainings and competencies may be included as required.
* Participate in educational activities including training of medical students, resident, fellows, and genetic counselors. Provides guidance, training and leadership to less experienced staff and trainees. May have input into staff evaluations.
* Provides genetic counseling for patients and their families who have or are at risk of having genetic disorders. Effectively counsels patients and their families. Interviews patients and their families to assess medical condition and provide individual and group counseling services. Effectively provides individual and group counseling to patients and their families. Utilizing proper interview techniques, effectively interviews patients and their families. Properly assess medical conditions as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Masters Degree in genetic counseling from an accredited program. Board certification or eligibility for board certification as a genetic counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC). Ability to interface effectively with patients/research subjects, all levels of management and be able to work and communicate effectively with both internal and external collaborators. Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems; ability to work well under pressure. Strong understanding and knowledge base of clinical/research studies. Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently. Ability to work and make decisions independently.

Time management skills and ability to multi task. Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook, and databases. Familiar with Internet applications.

Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills.

Required Licenses: Certified Genetic Counselor

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $63,935.04 - $96,720.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
