Position Summary The Director of Data & AI is a transformational leader responsible for scaling an enterprise-wide data and AI capability for the State of Oklahoma. This role will drive strategic alignment between the OMES Information Services Division (Enterprise IT for the State of OK) and 100 consolidated agencies within areas of enterprise data strategy, modern data governance, AI lifecycle practices, and hybrid delivery. The Director will report to the State CTO and lead the development of a trustworthy, scalable, and outcome-driven data ecosystem to empower agencies, programs, and policymakers from insights to action. Key Responsibilities Strategy & Leadership Evolve and scale current statewide Data & AI strategy aligned with enterprise IT and agency missions. Lead, mentor, and mature a cross-functional team spanning Data Engineering, Data Science, and Report Analytics. Foster a culture of innovation, ethical AI, and responsible data use. Data & AI Platform Enablement Design, align, and operationalize modern data architecture and enterprise AI practices and standards across target domains and key agencies Drive the adoption of enterprise metadata, lineage, classification, and data sharing frameworks. Ensure secure, governed, and scalable access to high-value datasets across agencies. Governance & Productization Launch and lead enterprise data classification, stewardship, and data product management capabilities. Partner with Legal, Compliance, Security, Architecture, and other governing bodies within to enforce data policies and AI procurement standards. Oversee dataset usability reviews and implement service-level expectations for data delivery. Stakeholder Engagement & Delivery Act as a trusted advisor to agency data leads, enabling responsible data sharing and joint solution delivery. Lead intake, prioritization, and delivery of data and AI services across to serve State of OK Agencies Drive measurable improvements in delivery timelines, data quality, and end-user satisfaction. Physical Demands and Work Environment This position works in a comfortable office setting with a computer for a large percentage of the workday. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild. Occasional travel may be required. Minimum Qualifications Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field, and 10 years of progressive leadership experience in data, analytics, or AI functions leading teams of 100 or more. Additionally, experience with cloud-based data platforms (GCP, AWS, and/or Azure) and modern data architecture patterns and best practices, with a strong knowledge of data governance, AI ethics, model lifecycle, and product thinking. Preference will be given to candidates who Demonstrate a servant-leader mindset and a bias toward delivery. Build trust and credibility through transparency and accountability. Shape a performance-driven, future-ready, and inclusive data organization. Experience in the public sector, healthcare, or regulated environments preferred. Familiarity with enterprise data platforms and capabilities across Google, Microsoft, and AWS, as well as nice products.
