Position Summary
This position in the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) reports to the Vice President for Instructional Services. The Instructional Designer is responsible for administering, managing, and providing technical support for the College’s current primary Learning Management System (LMS) and other college-wide educational technologies. The designer consults and assists in developing and employing educational technologies and interventions to enhance course quality and student outcomes. The designer prioritizes student-centered learning, access to instructional content, and improved learner and instructor engagement. Additional responsibilities include participating in assessment and evaluation efforts to measure course and program quality and continually improve effectiveness of both. This is not a supervisory position and does not include personnel management.
Essential Functions
- Administer the current institutional Learning Management System (LMS).
- Manage college-funded educational technology, audiovisual resources for the Center for Teaching and Learning.
- Consult and assist faculty in designing competency-based accessible curriculum for multiple delivery methods (traditional, hybrid, and distance).
- Serve as a technical support contact to faculty for troubleshooting technical course design, delivery issues and educational technology.
- Maintain knowledge of current accreditation standards.
- Assist faculty in developing multimedia resources such as audio, video, photo, and web resources for multiple course delivery methods.
- Assess program courses in the primary LMS for accessibility, copyright, and educational quality standards.
- Produce job aids, trainings, and/or workshops for faculty to teach educational and technical best practices.
- Maintain currency on trends and developments in instructional design and technology and update faculty and staff on such trends and developments.
- Assist in the assessment of future instructional design and technology needs to support the college’s strategic planning efforts.
- The incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in instructional design/technology, education, or a related field; master’s degree preferred. Demonstrable experience/work history may be substituted for education credentials.
- Two years instructional design/technology experience in developing instructional materials, media and applications, preferably in a post-secondary competency-based educational environment.
- Knowledge of learning management systems, FERPA, web accessibility, project management, and copyright in higher education and distance education, and media repositories.
- Experience with web and media technologies for education.
- Communication and customer service skills. Experience supporting faculty in an educational environment preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Able to operate in Windows- and Mac-based computing environments.
- Demonstrate ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
- Spanish speaking proficiency desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
- Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
Additional Information
Working hours: Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
