What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Program Specialist position at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center?
The Education Program Specialist coordinates standardized patient activities within the Essig Patient Simulation Lab, in the Clinical Skills Center for the College of Medicine; uses adult learning theory to develop and implement standardized patient scenarios that are appropriate for learners at all levels and from various health programs; collaborates with SP Education Resource Specialist to design curricula to meet learning objectives and to ensure the goals and objectives of educational sessions are integrated with CSEAC resources to provide an effective learning environment; recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates standardized patients, making termination of employment decisions as necessary; facilitates trainee educational encounters with standardized patients; performs periodic quality assurance of standardized patients and their ability to give constructive and appropriate feedback; assists Education Resource Specialist in the development of teaching materials and training protocols for standardized patient sessions; participates in integration of standardized patients into existing and future medical curricular programs, especially those that are interprofessional and/or interdisciplinary in nature; supports and participates in educational research mission of the Center; participates in development of research proposals and assists with identification of funding sources; supports and participates in the pursuit of accreditation for the center by contributing to applications and participating in site visits; supports other educational activities in the CSEAC; work hours vary to include the occasional early morning, evening or weekend events.
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an equivalent experience required; two years' experience in educational program planning and administration required; excellent communication skills are necessary. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
Additional Desired Qualifications
Previous experience in a higher education setting preferred; experience with academic medical education preferred; experience teaching in a clinical education environment desired.
