Lab Resource Nurse Support

Salary: $45.54 / Hour

Classification: Part-Time Hourly

The Lab Resource Nurse Support position's primary responsibility is to assist in providing technical and tutoring support to students in the Nursing Programs. 

Degrees and Certifications

Olympic College helps students build skills for future careers through its numerous educational options. Students have the ability to achieve educational and career pathways by earning a certificate (Nursing Assistant or Practical Nursing) or an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) as well as completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Students who wish to complete a bachelor's degree locally can opt for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree now available at the Bremerton campus. In addition, OC offers courses to update job skills, get job training, or simply as personal enrichment. 

Lab Support

  • Support student clinical reasoning and evidence-based psychomotor development by providing direct assistance to students in the campus lab during open lab practice times, including simulation.
  • Maintain inventory levels of equipment and supplies necessary for specific content areas taught in the lab.
  • Organization, maintenance, and safety of the lab environment.
  • Manage and maintain the nursing practice lab in operating order, including supplies, equipment, and records.
  • Assist and coordinate with Faculty lab equipment and supplies needs for lab courses
  • Collaborate with Lab Resource Nurse (full-time) and Simulation Faculty Manager with simulated student experiences

Faculty

  • Collaborate with nursing faculty regarding expected student skill level.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty in the creation of clinical scenarios to support student clinical reasoning skills related to the nursing process.
  • Use diverse communication strategies to support student learning.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, and administrators.

Technical

  • Assist with maintaining records, maintenance, and operations of simulation equipment and other technology.
  • Maintain records and operation of simulators, video cameras, and other high-tech equipment in the lab.
  • Supervise students when using high-tech equipment in the lab.
  • Operate instructional and nursing equipment, including audiovisuals, computer-aided instruction, simulation, video cameras, and lab-related instructional equipment.

Tutor

  • Provide group theory or skills tutoring for students referred by nursing faculty.
  • Maintain written records of students seen for tutoring and communicate with nursing faculty regarding student progress.
  • Provide individual skills and theory tutoring appointments for students referred by nursing faculty or self-directed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned/required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree from an accredited College or University in Nursing.
  • Current RN license in the state of Washington or eligibility to obtain prior to employment.
  • Two (2) years of recent full-time equivalent (FTE) clinical nursing experience. Current CPR certification.
  • Proof of freedom from tuberculosis, current immunizations
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Applications.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited College or University.

A practical examination may be administered. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee a passing or competitive score on the examination.

Terms of Employment

This is an hourly position scheduled to work up to 18 hours per week. Hours worked are limited to 79 hours per month or 450 hours in a 6-month period. Flexibility in scheduling is needed to meet the demands of the department. The salary for this position is $45.54 per hour. 

Part-time positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis.
