Job Title: Tram Driver
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Seasonal (flexible schedule of 24 hours or more per week including weekends and holidays)
This is considered a seasonal position running until early November.
Summary:
Omahas Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking Tram Drivers to conduct safe and enjoyable tram rides for Zoo guests while providing excellent guest service skills to the public by answering routine questions, greeting visitors, and following ticketing policies. Tram drivers deliver engaging information about zoo exhibits and animals, attractions, conservation initiatives and more. Assist in housekeeping around the ticketing areas. This position reports directly to the Guest Services Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Adhere and comply with the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium Employee Handbook
- Safely operate the Tram in all weather conditions
- Ability to assist guests at ticketing kiosks by answering questions and completing transactions
- Provide general information about prices, location of specific attractions, and safety rules
- Perform safety checks of the tram at start and end of shift
- Accurately report any malfunctions or safety concerns immediately to supervisor
- Ensure guest safety on the tram and areas surrounding the tram
- Deliver a scripted speech over a PA system while driving the tram along the designated route
- Ensure guest compliance with rules and safety regulations
- Assist guests with the loading and unloading of the tram
- Enforces Zoo policies of closures and evacuations in the event of threatening weather
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Possess a valid drivers license and a clean driving record.
- Must pass drug screening and background check
- Must be able to drive a tractor/tram or be willing to learn how to drive a tractor/tram with a clutch.
- Must be available to work 24 hours each week during the summer season
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays during the summer season
- May be required to stand for long periods of time
- Must have an outgoing and engaging personality
Experience:
- Prior cash handling experience preferred but not required
- Prior guest service experience preferred but not required
- Bilingual language skills a plus
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Will sometimes work extended/odd hours including weekends, holidays, and some night programs.
- Must be able to walk long distances across the zoo. Work is done in both indoor and outdoor settings.
- Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head and climb.
- Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
- Will work outdoors in all weather conditions.
