We are looking for a motivated and heartfelt individual interested in working full-time to help provide dental care to the community.  This person must be bilingual in Spanish.


POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant is a clinical One Health employee providing supportive tasks for the organization and/or departments(s). Under the direction of assigned One Health management, the assistant supports in maintaining a smooth and efficient workflow and/or work product in a specialty area.


The Dental Assistant assists Dentist(s) in providing high quality direct dental patient care and treatment. Dental Assistants are responsible for the maintenance of patient records and dental equipment and instrumental in the safe provision of dental care. 


COMPENSATION: Non-certified- $19.11-$20.20/hr $3.50/hr locality differential and $1.50/hr bilingual differential

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time (36 hours/week)

AVAILABILITY: Tuesday to Friday

Specialist Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintains functionality of organization and/or department by managing tasks and information to optimize processes.
  2. Responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the organization and/or department.
  3. Serves as the first point of contact for patients, vendors, employees.
  4. Collaborates and communicates within teams, supports others, and contributes positively to the overall success of the organization.

Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities

 

Prior to Patient Care Each Day

a.  Turns on all equipment including: compressors, lights, units.
b.  Fills ultrasonic solutions and prepares the sterilization area.
c.  Fills water bottles for rooms.
d.  Ensures that supplies are properly stocked for the day, including bur blocks.
e.  Reviews schedule and prepares for the day appropriately.


Each Patient


    a.   Sets up the dental operatory for the procedure scheduled and anticipates any possible changes


    b.  Greets and seats the patients as soon as possible. If the patient will be seated for more than 10 minutes past their appointment time, informs the front desk and patient and gives them an approximate wait time.


    c.  Reviews and records medical updates, medications, and takes and records vital signs.


    d.  Identifies if patient (if indicated) took their pre-medication and documents in chart.  If patient did not take their pre-medication, informs dentist and assists in rescheduling patient as indicated.


    e.  Under supervision, places digital sensor for proper exposure of radiographs.


    f.  Ensures all necessary consent forms are properly completed, documented and signed.


    g.  Assists dentist as directed by charting dental findings, diagnosis, treatment plan, and completed services in patient EDR records.


    h.  Assists dentist chairside during all patient treatment.


    i.  Cleans and sterilizes dental instruments, trays, and dental operatories. Ensures that hand pieces are properly oiled and prepared for sterilization.


    j.  Under the direction of the dentist, provides patient education and post-op instructions.


    After Patient Care


    a.  Cleans dental operatories and equipment.


    b.  Prepares for the next day, restocks all supplies, performs a regular inventory and identifies supplies that need to be ordered.


    c.  Turns off equipment.


    d.  Performs any necessary maintenance.


    e.  Performs post-operative calls to patients as requested by the Dentist.


    General duties:


      1. Assists in coordinating patient flow. Assists in scheduling patients when needed.

      2. Assists in organizing and maintaining inventory, equipment and supplies.

      3. Updates and maintains clinic lab case logs.

      4. Performs weekly/monthly maintenance on dental equipment. Disposal of sharps and biohazard materials.

      5. Maintains cleanliness of dental laboratory and ensures that materials are stocked, confirming less commonly used materials have not expired.

      6. Provides exceptional customer service and models the mission of One Health when interacting with internal and external stakeholders promoting a positive image for the health center. 

      7. Maintains cleanliness of dental clinic, including hallways and breakroom.

      8. Safeguards patient privacy and confidentiality.

      9. Secures the building at the close of each working day according to One Health's protocols and locks all entrances.

      10. Participates in quality improvement and risk management activities as required.

      11. Adheres to all One Health Policies and Procedures. 

      12. Travels to other regional dental clinics to fill-in for dental assistant absences or meetings as needed. 

      13. Performs other duties as assigned or required with or without prior notification.


      MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 


      Education/Certificates/Licenses: 

      Required

      • High School Diploma/GED
      • Valid driver’s license
      • BLS Certification upon hire
      • Intent to complete dental board-approved radiology certification (DANB RHS or other)
        • To be completed within 6 months of hire date, expected to retake exam within 3 months of first written exam attempt and taken until passed


      Preferred

      • Graduate of a certified dental assistant program

       

      Experience:

      Required

      • Competent computer skills


      Preferred

      • Two (2) years of dental clinic experience
      • Healthcare related experience
