Overview
This position is responsible for designing creative behavior plans to address issues that impact the Individual’s ability to meet their goals and aspirations. These plans must meet all guidelines set forth in the OPWDD 633 standards. As part of this position, Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) will also be responsible for training staff on the behavior plans, evaluating and updating plans. The BIS is also responsible for communicating with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) team. The BIS reports to the Director of Clinical & Behavioral Services.
Responsibilities
• Is responsible for the development and revision of behavior programs for the individuals on their caseload with consultation from the rest of the IDT team.• Create and revise datasheets as needed for the behavior support plans. • Prepares behavioral reports for semi-annual and annual IDT/Lifeplan meetings• Provide crisis intervention for Individuals when necessary.• Debrief with staff after major behavioral events.• Train staff (both in person and through PowerPoint) on implementation of behavioral programs• Conducts Behavioral Assessments as needed.• Conducts Independent Time Assessment with the Individual and the House Manger. • Conduct travel readiness assessments as needed. • Prepare reports for the Human Rights Committee regarding medication reviews as well as other limitations of rights. • Provide behavioral summary reports to mental health providers (in-house and community) • Act as a liaison regarding behavioral issues between and among IDT members, clinics, mental health practitioners, hospitals, day programs, and families. • Participate in meetings such as semi-annual and annual IDT meetings, day program, departmental, HRC, special team meetings, scheduled supervisory meetings. • Monitor all behavior intervention reports and provide retraining as necessary. • Maintain the behavior section of the EHR system for all Individuals on their caseload. • Educate IDT members regarding the need to adhere to fading criteria listed in the behavior plans. • Act as a liaison with individuals’ family members who have questions and/or concerns regarding the individual’s behavior. • Maintain current certification in SCIP-R and CPR• Attend all mandatory training annually, including the corporate compliance training. • Perform all job duties in full compliance with all laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. • Adhere to the agency’s corporate compliance program including the code of business conduct, the NYS and federal false claims act, whistleblower protections and mandatory reporting.• Fully cooperate in all corporate compliance investigations and reviews.
Qualifications
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: Must be computer literate, have excellent communication skills, have good interpersonal skills, able to travel to access multiple locations, be able to work flexible hours as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BIS Level 1: Master’s degree in a clinical and/or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology or applied psychology and documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development; and five (5) years of experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities including devising, implementing and monitoring of behavioral support plans; and/or Providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans.
BIS Level 2: Master’s degree in clinical or community psychology, social work, or a related human services field or licensure approved by OPWDD; at least one (1) but less than (5) years of experience providing behavioral services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
