The Orange County Department of Social Services has an opening for a Human Services Coordinator II in the Adult Medicaid Division. The work involves the responsibility for leading the work of and providing training to Human Services Specialists, Human Services Technicians, and/or Social Worker II positions. An employee in this class leads a team in application processing, determination, and re-determination of eligibility for one or more public assistance and/or employment services programs, troubleshooting issues and training staff on the use of related software applications and case management protocols. This classification is distinguished from the Human Services Coordinator I classification by the level of responsibility for more complex program services, management duties and coordinating assigned human services program(s) and providing services to a specialized caseload.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Human Services Supervisor with leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others may be required of this position. Position does related work as required.

The hiring range is based on the Orange County Social Services Step Plan. The Step Plan is based on years of Human Services Coordinator II experience. Full credit is given for years of experience performing the same job functions. Partial credit is given for years of experience performing related job functions. The top half of the scale is reserved for career employees with senior level experience in the same role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in human services field such as social work, counseling, or psychology or closely related field AND one (1) year of work experience in social work or counseling and/or work experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization. Must have one (1) year of work experience inleading teams and/or coordinating the work of others; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditioned upon successful clearance of a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
Requires flexibility and adaptability to be re-assigned to assist with other DSS-related functions as determined by the Social Services Director or their designee.
In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager, the DSS Director, or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations, as well as critical agency needs, should be expected. Employees may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours, and/or work location.
As with all positions with the Department of Social Services, this position may be required to serve in shelters in time of natural and man-made disasters including overnight and weekends. The duties assigned during this time may vary from your regularly assigned duties. The assigned duties will be at the discretion of the Social Services Director.
