JOB TITLE: Maintenance Manager

REPORTS TO: Plant Manager

Nature & Scope: This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of all processing equipment and maintaining structural integrity of the building and plant structures within approved time and budget parameters. Position oversees maintenance of Packaging and Production/Processing departments, including Maintenance, Electrical and Refrigeration.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:

Ensure Efficient Operation of plant processing and packaging equipment.

  • Work with various Department supervisors to plan and organize repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Ensure quality of workmanship is performed.
  • Diagnose equipment problems and recommend and/or undertake corrective action.
  • Ensure quality of workmanship of all fabrication, construction, installation, and machine work is done properly and in a manner that is safe and meets budget.
  • Look for new and innovative ways to improve quality, personnel safety, food safety and efficiency.
  • Make certain that preventative maintenance is performed and documented on all plant equipment appropriately and in a timely fashion, and that all maintenance is performed in a manner that is safe and complies with food safety guidelines.
  • Perform the activities of workers supervised.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Provide coaching and leadership to the maintenance staff, both technical and personal skill development.

  • Lead, Coach and Train to develop individual’s skills and cross train to build reliable depth at the facility.
  • Provide opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Foster inter-department sharing of knowledge and resources for the various maintenance teams.

Provide vision and strategic planning for the departments.

  • Develop short and long range goals to meet facility objectives.
  • Implement a succession plan to ensure long term continuity.
  • Manage or assist in projects, oversee installation and completion of projects as per project approvals.

Work within a budget:

  • Assist the plant manager in developing an annual operating budget and manage departmental activities to meet the approved budget.
  • Oversee cost effective ordering of parts, materials, and supplies as required.
  • Review maintenance GL accounts and approve invoices.

Maintenance facility structures and grounds.

  • Inspect / repair building and surroundings as needed.
  • Utilize contractors to perform work ask needed.

Participate in personnel related issues:

  • Ensure the departments specific training is conducted and documented.
  • Recruit, hire and terminate employees as needed.
  • Participate in disciplinary meetings.
  • Assign and direct work; appraise performance; address complaints and resolve problems.

Promote a safe work environment.

  • Provide appropriate safety equipment and gear.
  • Maintain safe and sanitary work area.
  • Train, coach and enforce all phases of the safety program to maintain safe practices, and 100% compliance to policies.

Promote food safety.

  • Incorporate food safety and sanitary design into the planning and implementation of all repair, maintenance, design and installation.
  • Lead, train, and educate employees on food safety and sanitary design.

Ensure accurate documentation of records.

  • Document employee performance and behavior.
  • Maintain accurate records for maintenance program as required and manage all permit applications and regulatory reporting in a timely manner.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • College degree preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Prefer 5 years of increasing experience in maintenance.
  • Proficient computer skills. AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Good mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
  • High level of clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient leadership, team building and motivational skills.
  • Possess skills for efficient and effective teaching and training.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, repair food processing equipment and drive a forklift.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, and blue prints.
  • Possess an optimistic attitude and driven mind set to continuously improve facilities objectives.
  • All new employee hiring is contingent upon passing a drug screen and background check.

Supervisory Responsibility & Direct Reports:

This position has supervisory responsibilities, with direct and indirect supervision of entire department (Packaging, Refrigeration, Electrical, and Processing) of approximately 12 maintenance employees.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm but frequently include after hours and weekend work. This position is expected to be available for after-hours calls as well.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
