GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
A Financial Counselor's primary responsibility is to complete financial estimates for surgical and non-surgical procedures. They will work directly with the patient to ensure payment of delinquent accounts. They will act as a liaison between the patient and the provider to ensure payments are made as per the OrthoArkansas Financial Policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review all surgical and procedures for assigned physicians to determine benefits and estimated patient responsibility.
- Communicates with the patient their estimated portion and arrangement of prepay.
- Communicates with the Surgery Centers regarding benefits and prepay for upcoming surgeries.
- Handles any questions related to the patients account from staff or patients.
- Collects any outstanding balances on patient accounts.
- Negotiate and strategize patient payment arrangements.
- Educate patients about payment options and financial assistance.
- Appropriately document and report payment information.
- Appropriately follows Financial Policies as established by Organization.
- Reviews accounts for placement with collection agency.
- Communicates directly with collections agency on payments made on collection accounts.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or other.
- 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines.
- Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with patients, physicians, hospitals, insurance companies and coworkers.
- Thorough knowledge of orthopedic procedures/diagnoses and procedure codes is preferred.
