What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lean Specialist position at Parker Aerospace?
The Lean Leader is responsible for championing and leading Lean initiatives at the Site level by utilizing the company's WIN Strategy. Organizes associates in value stream mapping and continuous improvement initiatives to eliminate waste in all office, factory and support functions. Transfers the ownership of lean principles to leadership by assisting the leaders to build competency with the Lean Tools across the team.
Position reports to the Site Lean Manager and works directly with the Operations or Functional Business process leads. Ensures Lean education and implementation in all functions at the plant and / or and facility level to insure sustainability. This role has no direct reports.
Job Core Responsibilities
• Leads and guides Lean initiatives within the site. Works with site level management on Lean process projects using lean tools and metrics. Assists in the development of a Lean Strategy to be implemented.
• The Lean Leader will coordinate initiatives at the site(s) and train associates how to continually eliminate waste.
• The Lean Leader is a key driver to implement the Lean principles, techniques, and methodologies according to corporate requirements working in conjunction with site leaders. Technologies and methodologies include Manufacturing & Business Process Value Stream Mapping (Current and Future State Implementation), Cellular Manufacturing, Kanban Pull Systems, Quick Changeover, design for lean, one-piece flow, inventory reduction, Lean Management Systems, site tracking centers etc.
• Makes implementation and results a top priority and regularly updates the Site’s Lean implementation plan. Empowers every employee in the site through positive reinforcement of Lean. "Make Lean the way we do things at Parker."
• Provides effective change management, leadership, and optimization in implementing the corporate WIN strategy across the Plant. Serves as a catalyst for successful and sustained lean implementation.
• Supports coaching and teaching of lean principles through the use of outside resources.
• Ensures on-going education of all employees at the site in Lean. Promotes a Continuous Learning environment.
Job Specifications
Education: Bachelor degree required
Years’ Experience: 3-5 years of manufacturing technical experience demonstrating a self-starting and hands-on quality.
• Must be willing/available to travel up to 15% between Division sites.
• Experience with Business Process Lean Transformations desired.
• A good understanding of Lean principles such as Value Stream Transformation (Mapping), Just-in-Time, Demand Flow, Single Piece Flow, Five S's, Visual Management, etc.
• Has participated in multiple Kaizen events in manufacturing, engineering and business process areas.
• Kaizen event facilitation experience desired.
• Has demonstrated the ability to articulate the desired state, purpose and value of lean and constantly moving in the direction of waste elimination.
• Good understanding of financial measurements and goals and has good analytical skills.
• Excellent communication skills to lead and support empowered employees in a team environment.
• Good presentation skills to effectively share the success and ideas of the Site and Division.
