JOB SUMMARY:
To promote the mission of PATH to help individuals achieve a more independent and fulfilling life by being an effective team member. The Certified Peer Specialist will assist program participants in their individual recovery process and to assist the program community in developing an environment that promotes recovery. To utilize your belief in and your own personal experience of recovery to encourage self-determination and engagement in meaningful community integrated activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
HS Diploma or GED.
Previous Experience/Work History: Lived Experience.
DBH approved certification in provision of peer services.
Good Organization Skills.
COVID-19 vaccination, or willingness to receive vaccine required.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Provide training and assist in orientation of new employees to help staff understand and accept the concept of recovery and be supportive of a peer culture that promotes recovery
Provide Education on the concept of recovery for individuals participating in services
Invite and accompany individuals to recovery focused trainings
Share personal experience as a person in recovery
Model and promote self-advocacy
Actively engage individuals in services including outreach visits at the individual’s home, crisis center or outpatient facility
Support individuals in all phases of psychiatric rehabilitation
Assist individuals in developing and practicing the skills defined on their psychiatric rehabilitation plans which may include accompanying individuals to appointments or leisure activities to provide support and encouragement
Educate and engage individuals in the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) process
Facilitate Dual Recovery Anonymous or other self-help groups for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders as assigned
Participate in community meetings to nurture a peer support culture
Assist in the development and implementation of educational and support groups deemed beneficial by the Stakeholder Committee
Link individuals to community resources and peer supports to promote community integration
