What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dining Services Worker, Regular Part-time position at Pennsylvania College of Technology?
- This person will assist in an assigned area on a regular part-time basis.
- Position hours will be maintained annually during Fall and Spring semester.
- Position hours and calendars dependent upon assigned slot, not less than 20 hours/week and not more than 30 hours/week.
Days, Evening, and weekend shifts available. Certain positions may be eligible for a shift differential based on their work schedule.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent. (Desired)
- Some Dining Service or cafeteria experience, preferable in a fast food or institutional environment. (Desired)
- Ability to lift items up to 40 lbs.
- Must have neat and clean grooming and hygiene habits.
- Able to stand/walk for long periods of time.
- Exposure to high temperature kitchen equipment
- Exposure to fluctuations in temperatures (i.e. coolers/ freezers)
- Pushing and/or pulling a kitchen cart weighing 70 lbs. Loaded cart may at times, as needed, weigh up to, and not to exceed, 200 lbs.
- Some additional hours beyond the regular schedule may be required to meet the needs of Dining Services.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is not required but is desired. Candidates possessing a valid driver’s license may be required to drive a College vehicle on or about campus in performing the functions of the position. Those candidates possessing a valid driver’s license would be subject to a motor vehicle background check.

- Display exemplary customer service skills. (Essential)
- Direct customer concerns, as well as dining plan misuse, to proper supervisor. (Essential)
- Fill in at other Dining Service areas, as needed. (Essential)
- Clean and sanitize DS equipment as requested by supervisor, or as designated by preventative maintenance schedules. (Essential)
- Perform general housekeeping functions, keeping dining/service/kitchen areas clean and orderly. (Essential)
- Wash pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etc. utilizing dish machine(s) and pot sinks. (Essential)
- Remove garbage, recycling, and compost from kitchen and service areas. (Essential)
- Assist in kitchen with various tasks, such as food preparation, to ensure service lines are replenished and fresh. (Essential)
- Assist with stocking of front of house, service areas, storage areas, and/or convenience stores. (Essential)
- Transport food, equipment, and supplies between storage areas and work areas. (Marginal)
- Prepare, cook, and/or serve food from various food service equipment, following established procedures for the specific assigned work station, or ability to be trained. (Essential)
- Ensure opening and closing procedures and duties are completed accurately for assigned work station. (Essential)
- Comply with all safety and sanitation procedures in performance of duties. (Essential)
- Will be required to work snow closure days that may fall on scheduled work days. (Essential)
