The technician will assist with aspects of custodial, grounds, maintenance, and event coverage at the Community Arts Center. This position will consist of substitute custodial coverage necessary, event setups and coverage, grounds maintenance and minor repair and preventative maintenance.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. (Minimum)
Experience:
- Experience as a custodian. (Highly Desired)
- Experience in general maintenance duties, such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing and HVAC. (Highly Desired)
- Experience in general lawn and grounds duties. (Highly Desired)
- Experience operating mechanical lifts. (Highly Desired)
Abilities and Skills:
- Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions. (Minimum)
- Ability to communicate both orally and in written form. (Minimum)
- Possession of a valid driver’s license. (Minimum)
- Operate a plow truck. (Desired)
- Working knowledge of computer applications related to work order systems and Microsoft Office/Office 365 programs. (Minimum)
- Must have training and/or certification in forklift operation or become trained/certified prior to performing forklift responsibilities. (Minimum)
- Demonstrated sensitivity to diversity and multicultural issues. (Minimum)
- Drive trucks, scissor lifts and forklifts. (Essential)
- Assist plumbers, carpenters, electricians, masons, and painters with general maintenance duties. (Essential)
- Assist with the installation and repair electrical lighting systems and fixtures. (Essential)
- Assist with the installation and repair of wood/metal framing, insulation, drywall, trim, acoustical ceilings, etc. (Essential)
- Assist with repairs to concrete work, walls, ceilings, floors, steps, walkways, and furnishings. (Marginal)
- Patching, sanding, scraping, priming, and painting of surfaces. (Essential)
- Assist Horticulturists with various groundskeeping duties including but not limited to: cleaning of outdoor areas, mowing, weed control, mulching, snow removal. (Essential)
- Haul gravel, mulch, sand, topsoil, equipment, supplies to and from various locations. (Essential)
- Move College offices and equipment. (Essential)
- Assist Custodians with various duties, including but not limited to: floor care, finish removal, refinishing, burnishing, mopping, scrubbing, carpet cleaning, vacuuming and laundry. (Essential)
- Dispose of trash and recycling. (Essential)
- Cleaning of surfaces, such as, walls, windows, ledges, desks, chairs, fountains, ashtrays, whiteboards, blackboards. (Essential)
- Dust various areas. (Essential)
- Maintain stairways and landings. (Essential)
- Clean restrooms and replenish supplies. (Essential)
- Provide proper disinfection of surfaces of surfaces as necessary. (Essential)
- Remove snow from walkways. (Essential)
- Replace light bulbs and clean lighting fixtures. (Essential)
- Set up areas for and function as an Attendant at special College events. (Essential
Physical Standards:
- Lifting 65 lbs. maximum, without assistance, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.
- Working off ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts at high elevations.
- Travel to main campus buildings when necessary.
- Exposed to dust and harsh chemicals in cleaning products.
- Work outdoors in extreme conditions.
Special Job Features:
- Work days and hours are determined by the College and the Community Arts Center’s Event schedule and are subject to change.
- Academic year and summer hours are established to meet the needs of the department and the Community Arts Center.
- Will provide event coverage for Community Arts Center and other College events during the scheduled shift and outside of the scheduled shift
- Will be required to work in different Campus buildings/locations to accommodate needs of General Services (Essential)
- Will be required to work during delays and snow closure days that may fall on scheduled workdays. (Essential)
- Will be required to work overtime on short notice to include evenings, weekends, special events and call ins at the discretion of the appropriate supervisor. (Essential)
- Will be required to use a College vehicle and travel to other campuses and buildings.
- Will be required to use iPad, laptop, or desktop to complete work orders and communicate with others. (Essential)
- State Police, Child Line, and FBI fingerprint clearances under the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law (CPSL) required before employment can begin.
