Description
Duties: Under the general guidance of the Youth Sports and Engagement Specialist, the Sports Instructor is responsible for:
- Develop program lesson plans that focus on skill development and fun for sports like soccer, baseball, and basketball.
- Set up and tear down equipment.
- Evaluate the performance of program participants.
- Distribute program information to desired parties.
- Mentor young participants.
- Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; supporting all aspects of the Park District’s safety procedures
- Performs all other duties as required.
Other: This position will work at multiple sites throughout Peoria: Lakeview Recreation Center, Franciscan Recreation Center, and Glen Oak Park outdoor courts.
Qualifications
Experience – Prior coaching experience as a team member or coach is preferred.
Knowledge and Ability –
- Ability to teach sports skills and fundamentals to young athletes in a safe manner, emphasizing sportsmanship at all times.
- Desire and ability to work with children and adults.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Possess the ability to lead others in group and individual activities, demonstrating necessary steps and skills.
- The position requires effective communication with staff and program participants as well as the ability to respond effectively and quickly in varying situations.
