We are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Senior Cost Accountant to join our finance team. This role is responsible for managing and analyzing all aspects of cost accounting, including inventory valuation, standard costing, variance analysis, and cost reporting. The ideal candidate has a strong background in manufacturing or product-based environments and excels at translating cost data into actionable insights to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update standard cost systems, including cost roll-ups and bill of materials (BOM) accuracy
- Analyze and reconcile inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS); investigate variances and provide recommendations for improvement
- Perform month-end and year-end cost accounting close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Support the budgeting and forecasting processes with detailed cost analysis and modeling
- Conduct regular inventory reviews, physical inventory counts, and cycle counts; ensure accuracy of perpetual inventory systems
- Analyze manufacturing costs, labor, material usage, and overhead allocation to identify trends and cost-saving opportunities
- Partner with operations, supply chain, and finance teams to ensure accurate cost tracking and reporting
- Assist with financial audits, ensuring compliance with internal controls and GAAP
- Develop and maintain cost accounting procedures and policies for consistent reporting and control
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred)
Experience
- 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or product-based company
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Strong knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, and cost analysis
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Epicor, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal control principles
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate across departments
- Experience with lean manufacturing or process improvement initiatives
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- May require up to 10% travel
