Mississippi State University's Department of Computer Science & Engineering invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in the research areas of Cybersecurity and Large Language Models (LLMs), with an anticipated start date in Spring or Fall 2026. The successful candidate will join Dr. Charan Gudla's research group, which focuses on advancing the intersection of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and LLMs such as GPT, BERT, and LLaMA.
Research Focus Areas Include
- Pretraining and fine-tuning of LLMs
- Adversarial and privacy-preserving machine learning
- Trustworthy and interpretable AI
- Deep learning applications for threat detection
Requirements
- Demonstrated background in LLMs and prompt engineering
- Proficiency in Python and experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Strong understanding of machine learning, optimization, and evaluation methods
- Prior research experience in AI/ML or cybersecurity is advantageous
- Minimum GPA of 3.5
- IELTS score of at least 6.5 (no band below 6.0)
- GRE is not required

- Coding test (Python and ML fundamentals)
- Final interview with Dr. Charan Gudla
