Phoenix Paper Wickliffe LLC is searching for qualified candidates to assume the role of Assistant Pulp Area Leader.
Summary: Reporting directly to the Pulp Mill Area Leader, the successful candidate will have leadership responsibility for the safe and environmentally compliant operation of pulp area of a paper mill producing 1000 tons per day of various paper and pulp grades. This is a Salaried, non-exempt position.
Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Act as the secondary leader of the Pulp Area, backing up the Pulp Area Leader as needed.
- Manage the reliability and stability of Pulp Mill, Pulp Dryer and Woodyard production equipment.
- Cultivate a work environment centered on employee ownership and engagement.
- Lead the departments to achieve a safety and environmental incident-free workplace identifying critical hazards and mitigating the risk based on criticality.
- Help manage and execute Operator training and qualification processes to maintain a flexible and qualified workforce.
- Develop and execute plans to eliminate production bottlenecks and to minimize total manufacturing cost of the Pulp Mill, Pulp Dryer and Woodyard.
- Optimize and coordinate planning for scheduled shutdowns, operator training, and maintenance and capital projects.
- Accountable to meet the pulp production, quality and cost plan for the Pulp Mill, Pulp Dryer and Woodyard.
- Provide daily support and technical expertise to area operators and maintenance personnel.
- Lead the pulp area continuous improvement efforts with the help of department operators and maintenance teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering/Technical discipline or a minimum of ten (10) years of experience working in a pulp and paper mill required.
- Experienced manager that can lead an organization and execute on goals.
- A minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing experience, preferably in Pulp Mill and Bleaching operations.
- Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel (for use of spreadsheets, reporting, simple formulas) and Outlook (for internal and external correspondence)
- Experience communicating with all levels of the organization (i.e., via reports, e-mail, verbally, and/or in small/large group settings) in a team environment
- Experience in developing and implementing improvement processes and projects.
- Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekend duty as necessary to manage facility performance.
